INFRASOUND TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP

The objective of the workshop is to present and discuss recent technical developments in the field of infrasound. Topics include the observation of infrasonic signals, modeling studies of infrasonic wave propagation, and signal processing and analysis techniques for infrasonic data. The morning of the last day of the workshop would concentrate on the detection and processing of signals recorded by infrasound arrays, and in the afternoon a visit is planned to the IS59 infrasound array and to the Infrasound Laboratory (ISLA).
The workshop is open to participants from institutions involved in infrasound research and monitoring.

The workshop will be held at the King Kamehameha Beach Hotel in the western side of the Big Island of Hawaii. The hotel is by the beach in downtown Kailua-Kona and a walk (or swim) away from restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.
United, Aloha, and American Airlines fly direct from the United States to the Kona International Airport (KOA). Japan Airlines also flies direct from Tokyo to KOA. Major airlines provide service to Honolulu (HNL), Oahu. Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines fly from HNL to KOA. From the Kona International Airport, a taxi will take you downtown for $25. Car reservations, available at the airport, should be made in advance.
From the airport, follow the exit signs out of the airport to Highway 19, then turn right and travel ~8 miles south to the town of Kailua-Kailua. The first major intersection will be Highway 19 and Palani Rd. Turn right onto Palani Rd. and follow it down to the sea. The King Kamehameha Beach Hotel is right at the intersection of the road and the shoreline.

Use the group name UH Infrasound Lab, or account number KC03901. The discount nightly rates are $79/night for a run of house (ROH) regular room, and $140/night for an ocean front room. No penalty for cancellations made with at least 72 hours notice.
November is the beginning of the dry season in Kailua-Kona, and the climate should be warm with clear skies. Aloha shirts and slacks are considered formal wear in the islands, thus coats and ties are not required. Shorts, sandals, and sunscreen are recommended. Snorkeling gear can be procured on-site. The corridor between Maui and Hawaii is a whale breeding ground in the late Fall.

A $200 registration fee will be collected on the first day of the meeting, or may be sent in advance. Please make checks payable to the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii.

Presentations and discussions will be conducted in English. Conveners may bring either electronic or overhead presentations. An overhead projector, a laptop PC with PowerPoint, a digital projector, and computer speakers will be provided. Special technical or software requirements should be addressed in advance. Abstracts and copies of presentations should be made available in electronic form at the time of the workshop for inclusion in the workshop proceedings.
